Quality vs. Quantity | The Big Debate

One of the oldest debates on social media is the quality of content versus the quantity of content.  Some experts will tell you to post ONLY when you can produce great content whereas some experts will tell you that you need to post several pieces of content each day to see growth on social media.  As someone who has been in this world for 8+ years, I’ve heard it all, I’ve tested a variety of strategies, and my answer for you is simple: post content in a schedule that aligns with your life.

What does that mean?

How annoying, I just gave you a vague answer but stick with me.  Personally, I think that many social media experts who give out these very strict exclusive statements are looking for clicks.  They don’t know anything about your business model, your lifestyle, your ability to produce content, so to advise that you share 5 pieces of content each day can be unattainable for the average business owner.  On the other side of it, you have influencers or solo entrepreneurs who LOVE social and posting a few reels a day mixed with a static post, a carousel post, and a handful of stories is not only easy but FUN. At the end of the day unless I have a strategy call with you I don’t feel like I have enough information to give you the best approach for YOU.

However, I can give you the method to creating a solid foundation….so that you can either let the foundation work or you can produce more content as it feels fun and organic for your business.

The Foundation

Whether we are working together as a full-service client, consulting, or content subscription you’re going to hear me say the words “Foundation. Foundation. Foundation.” ALL THE TIME.  The foundation is critical to growing and cultivating a community of raving fans.

As an example, I break it down like this…5 posts per week, 5 specific content pillars, important dates, things we can’t miss. Viola.  You can put your content calendar together in 20 minutes.

I don’t recommend adding things like #coffeefriday or #throwbackthursday to your content strategy – save those for your fun/fluff posts. The foundation is where we get down and dirty with our goals. Why are we spending time on social? Why are we taking business resources that we could use elsewhere, HERE?  Why are my customers on social media and how can I serve them?

Viola!

My best advice, keep it simple.  Don’t overthink it. Don’t start creating Canva graphics or finding the right photo.  Focus on these three steps!

  1. The content pillar

  2. The Call to Action (CTA)

  3. The goal of the post

If the answers to those questions fall back to the goals of your business, you’re on the right track.  If you don’t know what to write as the call to action or what the goal of this post should be, let’s chat.  I can help you figure these things out. It’s what I do, it’s what I live for (anyone recognize that TikTok sound?)
