How Kate Has Changed The Way We View Learning | Client Spotlight

Written By: Eryn Gilson and Isabelle Dietrich

A little note from Eryn: Working with Kate and Fit Learning Columbus has been incredibly rewarding.  We started working with them a few months ago and the scope of work has continued to grow and change which for my creative heart is so much fun. When we started working together I can remember feeling so inspired by Kate’s level of passion for what she does and the families that Fit Learning is able to impact.  As a creative entrepreneur I love working with other small business owners who are incredibly passionate about what they do…it makes the work so much fun.

I’m excited to kick off a new blog series where we chat with our clients about their stories, how they got to where they are today and all things marketing.

Read our interview with Kate and then definitely go follow Fit Learning on social media and stay tuned for their updated website. :)

The story

Kate is owner and Lab Director of Fit Learning Columbus.  She has a background as a behavioral analyst and has extensive training in psychology and the principles of behavior. She has been all over the map from working with kids with autism doing clinical behavioral analysis to consulting in schools assisting districts, teachers, and teams in behavioral principles and how that relates to their classroom or their school buildings.

What is Fit Learning Columbus?

“The Fit Learning Mission is to transform the learning abilities of all children who walk through our doors such that they achieve greatness in their communities and beyond.”

“What is academic success and how can we set learners up for academic success? And what they found was that typically in schools we’re training learners to an accuracy goal. But, what we found is that the foundational skills in academics really need to be not just accurate but fluent. And so fluency is going to look at accuracy with a time criteria and what that allows us to do is kinda make with accuracy and like an ease of performing that skill.” Kate Wallace

Kate founded Fit Learning in 2021.

As a business owner

Kate loves getting to know their learners because they get to spend so much quality time together. Seeing what motivates the kids is a really cool process.

“We had a kindergartener come to us who didn’t know all their letter names and now is reading at a solid first grade level, which is insane”

With this being Kate’s first time as a business owner there are a lot of unknowns. She loves that with Fit Learning they have a lot of data and see a lot of success. With this being said there’s a lot of guessing and checking which is out of her comfort zone.

“But as a business owner, your terms of success or failure are a little bit murky.”

Kate talks all things Marketing

When it comes to marketing, the most important part of her business, Fit Learning, is brand awareness.

“It’s funny to think you know 3 years down the road I’m sure that that’s going to change. But, right now I just want to make sure that when people have a learner whose struggling or they have a kid they want to push ahead that Fit Learning is one of those businesses that gonna come to mind”

Rapid Fire Q&A

What’s your favorite type of content to create?

Reels.

“I hated the idea of reels and was so against it, but with Eryn's help they’ve actually become really fun”

If you could change one thing about your marketing strategy what would it be?

More streamline in my efforts.

“I know that’s something that Eryn’s really working on with me. But, I wanna make sure that everything is cohesive and flowing together. Kinda that big picture approach, but making sure all of my details are working toward that same goal.”

Do you love social media for your business?

Yes and no.

“Do I love it? No, just because it’s tedious on my end. Has it been beneficial? Yes, I’ve definitely seen growth through social media so I see its importance.”

How has Eryn and the EGC team impacted your marketing strategy or other areas of your business?

“Eryn has been amazing. When I first thought of marketing and social media, I just kind of thought of that as its own category. Eryn’s really taught me to kind of think in terms of pillars which I’ve now related back to our values”

That’s a wrap

We love working with Kate and her team and can’t wait to watch as Fit Learning grows and becomes the go to spot for families who need support with their students.
