6 Ways to Make Money Blogging

I’ve worked with a lot of clients who dream of passive income while doing work they love. My first question is if they have a blog and if they are ready to add a blog to their online presence.  Blogging helps with search engine optimization as well as the passive income generation they crave.

We will save the benefits of blogging for SEO for another blog post so we can focus on making passive income through your online presence today.

I’ve worked with stay-at-home parents, therapists, real estate agents, photographers, and so many more professionals in adding this revenue stream to their business strategy and I challenge anyone who says they can’t figure out a way to make this a reality in their industry.

One of my clients is in an industry that requires her to sit directly in front of her clients to earn a living, or so she thought.  Once we really sat down and came up with a strategy we found several ways for her to drive passive income with very little extra work. Sounds like a dream, right?  She now sells several products, has affiliate links added to blog posts she was already writing and doesn’t have to sit in front of any clients if that’s what she chooses.  It’s possible to dramatically increase your income by making a few tweaks to what you’re already doing.

Let’s talk about the different ways you can monetize your blog.

  1. Sponsorships, Social Media Ads, and Advertising

  2. Ad Networks

  3. Affiliate Network

  4. Digital Products

  5. Physical Products

  6. Gain clients!

Sponsored Posts

Sponsored Posts are a very natural and organic way to make money from your blog while controlling exactly what is shared and how it is shared. A sponsored post is paid for by another business that wants to use your platform to share its message.  With sponsored posts, you’ll want to make sure you are staying true to your brand while sharing what the other company is asking of you. As far as pricing you will want to look at your analytics but you can charge anywhere from $100 per post to $5,000 and more per post depending on your following.

Ad Networks

Ad Networks are designed to allow publishers in their network to post to content sites that serve automatic text, image, video, or interactive media advertisements, to a targeted audience. You focus on the content and getting the readers to your site and the ads will do what they do to drive income to your site.  Income really depends on a number of factors including the type of ad appearing on your site, the pricing of ads on your site, how many ad products you have (the more you have the more you earn).

Affiliate Marketing

A very popular way to earn passive income in every niche.  As the advertiser, you would earn a percentage of what your readers buy through your direct links.
Share links to things to everyday items.

In most cases, they don't have to buy exactly what you link to as long as your link is what got them to that site you will get a percentage of the entire sale.

Percentages vary based on business - be sure to check out their earnings chart before signing up. Amazon for example varies depending on the type of object - a book earns differently than an electronic.  Take a look at some of your favorite stores - I bet they have an affiliate program.

Digital Products

Graphic Design, Photography, Photography Presets, Fonts, Document Templates are just a few examples of digital products you can sell through your blog. eBooks are a great way to share what you know in great detail while monetizing your site. eBooks are great for business because they have low overhead and when priced correctly will be an easy purchase for your readers.

Physical Products

Your products don’t have to stay digital to be a fun purchase for your customers.  You can create merchandise that customers will get excited about like t-shirts, stickers, mugs, and more. Products like these can even be created on websites like Bonfire.com so you can design once, turn on smart launch, and they handle the printing and shipping.

Gain Clients

This isn’t as passive as the other options but it’s worth mentioning that you can gain new clients by sharing your knowledge through blog posts.  We all love social media (well not all of us) but the truth is your blog posts have more potential because of the searchability.  Don’t forget to create strong CTAs if gaining clients is something you are looking for.
